Having made a good amount of trips in the converted van now, we are constantly tinkering, modifying, removing, etc. in order to make life easier on the road. One thing that we’ve realized is that our cell signal is not always great especially in staying in RV parks in remote areas or boon docking. Decided to try to remedy this using a Weboost 4G LTE signal booster and their OTR truck antenna:
The unit is 12v so its easy to adapt to our electrical system in the van. The internal antenna needs to be mounted close to your mobile device so we mounted it by our mobile router/wifi device. It does come with an external antenna that is magnet and supposed to stick to your vehicle roof however from all reviews, it seems the OTR truck antenna (seen above) is much better. Plus, with the height of our van, this really extends up in the air!
The extension height of the external antenna is a positive however its also obviously a negative when driving since it significantly increases the height of the vehicle even more! To fix this I wanted an automatic retraction system for the antenna. Enter the Diamond K9000.
This device is also 12v so again, easy to adapt electrically. It’s basically a servo which rotates an arm from 180° to 90°.
