All about storage…

Before we even started with the conversion, we knew our van had to have a lot of storage. We thought about building our own wall cabinets but then found these IKEA Sektion cabinets. They are perfect in that they open up light airline overhead bins. Downfall is they are a bit heavy so securing them up on the van wall was a bit tricky.

We ended up using a combination of an aluminum L-bracket underneath the cabinet to make sort of “shelf” for them to sit on. We also used the mounting locations that one would normally mount them onto a wall in a kitchen. These help to secure the cabinets against the wall. And the “safety” mounting solution was using long bolts that go through the top of the cabinet and secure the cabinets to the ceiling using PLUS nuts that are installed into existing holes in van roof supporting structure.

The kitchen galley was again originally going to be custom fabricated however after browsing for pre-made units, we came across a shallow depth kitchen sideboard cabinet:

We ended up further bracing the interior using 2x2s and 2x4s since quite honestly, it was a bit flimsy to be installed in a van. Hoping that it holds up! Again this was chosen due to its shallow depth which was crucial in keeping a good van aisle.
