House Stereo Update

Long story short, when I built out my conversion 4 years ago I didn’t really put too much effort or thought into the actual sound system. I just wanted a simple 1-DIN 12v radio/bluetooth so I opted for a super cheap Rockville stereo. To it’s credit its been 100% rock solid for all of this time and honestly except for 1 shortfall from our particular usage, I would have just kept things alone. The issue was while driving, the kids like to watch movies in the rear and some parts of dialog in movies just can’t be heard.

I didn’t want to add another amp and complicate things so I just started to look for a better head unit. Enter the Sony DSX-GS80 GS Series High Power 45W X 4 Rms Digital Media Receiver with Bluetooth. It has a built in amp and you can even directly drive a subwoofer straight from the head unit without any external amp (I didn’t bother with this but is an extra option). It has an accompanying app to make changing settings (which there are a lot of, sound-wise, color display-wise) Amazon.com

This thing is awesome even paired with my crappy cheapo house speakers. I have it connected to our 21″ Android (Peloton) tablet (also 12v btw) via bluetooth so watching movies is super easy. Cranking up the volume test made my conversion rattle like mofo!

Anyway, just a PSA if anyone is looking for something like this I highly recommend it. Just one small caveat with this, since its pretty power heavy you need to use at least 14 gauge wiring.
